Toddler Stocking Stuffers 2026 — Tested by a Mom of Three

What are the best stocking stuffers for toddlers in 2026?

The best stocking stuffers for toddlers are small, reusable gifts they'll enjoy long after Christmas morning: travel toys, audio cards, reusable activities, and a few practical surprises. Here are the ones that have actually earned their keep with my three kids.

Typically the WOW super exciting gifts are not in the stocking. So rather than fight that, I lean into it and get things that we'll pull back out during travel days or restaurant nights months later. By then they've completely forgotten about them, because they were too excited by that other exciting toy Santa left, so it keeps that magical feeling of Christmas vibe extended throughout the year.

One thing before we start: I don't fill our stockings to the brim. These are a few cute extras, not a second Christmas. And I'm team practical. I've been known to put swimsuits and watershoes in their Easter baskets. More on our whole Christmas formula at the bottom, because honestly, simplifying the seasonal mental load is the real gift. 🤍

Your annual reminder not to get those cute metal hanging pieces to display your stockings! Our original one spelled out M E R R Y and had it gotten pulled down on someone's face, would've inflicted serious damage.

The stuff that survived all three of my kids

Giraffe Pop toys — a huge hit for our crew last year, and I mean this literally: all three kids (5, 4, and 1.5) still fight over them NOW. That's a ten-month attention span in toddler years, which is basically a lifetime achievement award.

Yoto cards — always, every stocking, every year. My parents gifted all the grandkids Yoto players early on, so this has been a part of our routine for years now. The kids listen to wind down for bed and during "quiet time" on weekends. New cards in the stocking means we keep them interested in these year over year.

  • Anytime I mention Yoto players I get questions about the Toniebox. I have friends who have loved them! For me I was worried the little characters would get mixed into their regular toys and lost but you may be far more organized than I am! Can't go wrong.

The magnetic puzzle — the undisputed GOAT of restaurant and travel toys in this house. I personally climb under the table to ensure we don't leave a dropped piece behind.

Wikki Stix — these live in my "Bag of Tricks" for when we're out and about, and here's the toddler magic: because they're not available every day, the kids get to rediscover them every time. Stocking-sized, silent, no pieces to lose.

Practical favorites

A few options:

  • Character toothbrushes

  • Fun socks or slippers

  • Hair accessories

  • Swimwear for an upcoming vacation

  • A new board book

  • A reusable water bottle for an older toddler

  • Fun bandages

Stocking stuffers by age

Stocking stuffers for babies and toddlers under 2 years old: bath toys, big chunky chalk, crayons, hair bows, a board book, suction spinners (travel hero).

Stocking stuffers for 2–3 year olds: the magnetic puzzle, the Giraffe Pops, a memory game, dinosaur counting game, reusable sticker books, Evereden foam soap [15% off your order with my link!] - 3 and up, and Paw Patrol flashlights (prepare to say "stop shining that in your brother's eyes" until spring).

Stocking stuffers for 4-6 year olds: Yoto cards, a favorite character watch, simple games like Uno, Stretch Armstrong (a classic for a reason), and space rocket bath bombs.

  • As we got older, my parents put small gift cards in our stockings too which I always loved. Starbucks, Target, Barnes & Noble, that sort of thing.

Everything mentioned is linked below!

What I skip (on purpose!)

Candy and sugary treats. Not because I'm anti-fun but because we do a special sweet Christmas breakfast, and nobody in this house needs a pre-breakfast sugar rush. The cute little extras ARE the treat.

Anything with those tiny little magnets. Stress. You do NOT need to be worrying about someone swallowing a magnet on a big day like Christmas. Same for button batteries.

And again: I don't stress about filling every inch. A half-full stocking with four things they'll love beats a stuffed one with twelve things I'll be stepping on by December 27th.

Our whole Christmas formula (steal it)

On Christmas morning each kid gets: one bigger thing they'll be really excited about, one thing they need (rain boots, a new jacket), 1–2 smaller things like race cars or whatever character they're currently obsessed with, or a puzzle, and books.

And every year the family gets shared gifts too: one bigger exciting item and one new board game under the tree. So far we've gotten Candy Land, Guess Who and Clue, and this year we really entered our family game night era so this may be the thing I'm most excited to shop for!

That's it. That formula has kept Christmas exciting AND kept our house from drowning during this incredibly busy (and expensive!) season. 🤍

Shop it all in one place

Everything above lives in my stocking stuffer collection on ShopMy, and most of it is on my Amazon storefront too.

FAQ

What do you put in a toddler's stocking?

A few small, screen-free things they'll actually reuse: audio cards if you have a Yoto or Tonie, one travel toy, one bath thing, and one small surprise from a character they love. It does not need to be full. I also gave our kids their first electric toothbrushes in their stockings a few years back. Practical beats padded every time for stockings.

Should you put candy in a toddler's stocking?

Totally your call — we skip it because Christmas Day already has a special breakfast, and the toys get more love than the sugar anyway. We have done this in the past so let's just say I learned from experience how fun the rest of the day is when it starts with a 3 year old housing a chocolate bar at 7am.

What's the safest way to hang a stocking in a home with toddlers?

We use Command Strips and hide them under the garland on top of our fireplace. No damage and hold plenty of weight. Before I knew better I'd gotten us a big metal one that said M E R R Y in all capital letters and had one of the kids yanked down the stocking it would've definitely been a trip to the ER.
