Space Gifts for Kids 2026: 16 Ideas for the Space-Obsessed (From a Mom of 3)

Written by Meg, mom of three (almost 6, 4 and almost 2) in Atlanta. Part of the Mama Meg Holiday Gift Guide 2026.

Our space era is super nostalgic for me 🥺 it started with our oldest around 2 after he watched Toy Story the first time. He LOVED Buzz Lightyear which quickly turned into interest in all things space. Little brother caught the fever in his toddler years too and naturally our daughter (almost 2) now fights to wear the space helmet.

Here are the things we've gotten over the years that have lasted & were all well loved.

SHORT ON TIME?

Quick picks: space gifts for kids

BEST OVERALL

Astronaut jumpsuit

Probably THE costume my kids have played with the most. We had to get 2!

BEST THEY CAN DO SOLO

Rocket with toy drill

STEM but easy enough to do on their own.

BEST FOR BEDTIME

Star projector night light

Great for toddlers having trouble sleeping on their own.

BEST STOCKING STUFFER

Space astronaut bath bombs

My kids love a bath and bath bombs are always a huge hit.

Dress up and imaginary play

Kids astronaut jumpsuit costume with helmet

Astronaut jumpsuit costume

 No batteries

This is probably THE costume my kids have played with the most. They absolutely love it and we had to buy a second one for little brother because it was creating constant fights. I printed out a super simple "badge" photo for them and they FLIPPED.

Kid wearing a toy astronaut helmet with movable visor

Astronaut helmet with movable visor

 No batteries

We went through a period of time where our oldest wore this out on walks with his regular clothes. It is really so fun and obviously perfect with the jumpsuit above.

Buzz Lightyear action figure in a shopping cart

Disney Official Buzz Lightyear Action Figure

 Lasted years

Best for: All ages.

The one that started it all! We still have this original Buzz and he is a classic, with all the features and catch phrases you remember from the movies.

Kid in astronaut costume inside a rocket ship play tent with a toy command center

Rocket ship pop up play tent

 Lasted years

Best for: All ages.

This was a "big family gift." Big doesn't need to mean expensive! We set this up for Christmas morning with the space helmet & costume and it was insane cute. Got the "Command Center" linked here too so they could pretend to steer.

Build & launch

Rocket take-apart with toy drill

 No batteries

Huge hit, easy enough for them to do by themselves. This is on year four here. We dedicated one of the $5 IKEA storage boxes I love to hold the pieces.

Rocket stomper

 No batteries

Super fun. Easy for them to get the hang of it and do themselves. We ended up getting two sets because we figured we'd lose rockets over the hill (we did).

Solar-powered race car kit on the driveway

Solar Race Car kit

Best for: 5–6 and up

We got this at our local children’s museum and it’s really really cool. Our son is into all things robots right now and this was a fun one to build together at his skill level.

Great STEM pick!

Sphero Mini Robot Coding Ball

 NEW to us this year

Best for: 6 and up

Technically not space but this is what our space lover is getting this year (shhhhh!), it came recommended to me by a mom friend and is another great STEM option.

Space floor puzzle with planets being put together

Space floor puzzle (36 pieces, jumbo sized)

 No batteries

Best for: 3+

The best little kids puzzles. The boxes being a related shape adds extra excitement! My middle guy is puzzle obsessed and we started these with him around 2.5 years old (with help).

Space MAGNA-TILE Set

 No batteries

A great set! I liked that the shuttle was distinct enough that even if it got mixed in with all of our other MAGNA-TILES, we could still easily find it later.

Books & bedtime

The DK Knowledge Encyclopedia Space!

 Lasted years

Best for: 5+ or any age with your supervision

This was our first of these kids picture encyclopedias and my kids constantly pull them out to look at the pictures. Just make sure you're through the ripping of the pages era!

Outer Space touch-and-feel board book

 No batteries

Best for: young toddlers

Same touch-and-feel series as the dino one and a great first space book for little hands. If your kid is still ripping up books, I highly recommend board books like this!

Galaxy star projector lighting up a ceiling

Astronaut star projector galaxy night light

This thing is super cool and fun especially for toddlers having trouble sleeping in their own rooms. It looks like a toy astronaut so just prepare to have the conversation that he's NOT a toy and he has a very special job to do, so we need to leave him and his plug alone.

Outer space wall decals above a kids bed

Outer space wall decals

 No batteries

My son was obsessed with these and wanted to bring them with us when we moved.

Bath & travel

Space toy bath bombs

 No batteries

The space version of our dino egg bath bombs. Same warning: catch the toy before it goes down the drain.

Rocket bath bombs

Under $25

For the older kiddos who are no longer impressed by regular bath bombs. These are super cool and look like they're flying across the tub!

Space Mission Educational Bath Fizzes

 NEW this year

These are on the list for my boys this year. Another great place to look for gifts, too!

Space-print kids headphones

Space themed kids headphones

 Travel hero

Same sturdy headphones as the dino pair, just in a rocket print. This is great for younger toddlers, 1-3 years old for our kiddos.

Wear it: space backpacks, sweatshirts and tees

Kiddo clothes sell out fast and styles change every season, so this is a mix of pieces we’ve worn and loved, plus new picks in similar styles. Prices are as of October 26.

What I’d skip

  • Alien stuff. For these ages (little kids) I stay away from the alien stuff. A lot of it skews spooky and I'm not quite ready to answer "are aliens real, mom?" before I've had my morning coffee. SKIP.

  • Books that still include Pluto as a planet. My millennial moms know what I mean. Older books will mention it as a planet and say where it lands in the lineup. Newer ones will specify that it's a "dwarf planet." Different books saying different things confused my kiddo (and, also, me?) when he was learning about the order of the planets around 4.

  • The LeapFrog Disney and Pixar Lilypad from Toy Story 5. Boycotting on principle! If you haven't seen the movie it's basically about how sad it is that screens are replacing toys and imaginary play for many kids, and now they are selling the exact screen toy "villain" from the movie... To kids. Justice for Bonnie!!!

FAQ

If they don't have an astronaut costume already, you can get the costume, helmet and pop up play tent linked above for under $100! Super fun for the imaginary play years.

We have only bought the one linked above and have had absolutely no issues with it. If you do buy any costume as a Christmas present, I HIGHLY recommend opening it up early and checking that it's in good shape. Sometimes people buy them, kids wear them for Halloween and they return them. I had a different one come totally stained and ripped and thank GOODNESS I checked early so I could order a replacement.

The one linked above was fantastic for our boys when they shared a room and were scared of the dark, around 3 and 4. I will say they need to be old enough to understand when you tell them do NOT look directly at the lights up close, and not to mess with anything with a plug.

Funnily enough, the previous owner of our house left one. My boys were OBSESSED with it, but for most of the year they are in bed before they can actually use it to see the stars. And we didn't want them looking at the sun through it or breaking it. So I'd hold off on this one for slightly older kiddos!

That's all I've got on space gifts for kids! As we try more things I'll of course add them here to keep it all in one place.

And with that, just your daily reminder that you're a beautiful mom and you are crushing it!
